Free Tax Filing?

Everybody has to file taxes every year and except for some low income families, most people would have to pay to file.

There is a possibility that tax filing could be free, as many bills in recent years have been proposed by lawmakers to make that happen. However, tax giants such as H&R Block and Intuit are still lobbying against it.

It is suggested by the bill supporters that the prefill government tax forms are user-friendly and it could also save time and money since most employers already will have sent the earnings information to the government agencies by the end of tax year.

But tax giants certainly would not want to make things easy for us. I personally have been using Turbo tax which is a product created by Intuit, to file my taxes. It charges a fee depending on each individual's case scale and the complexity of each tax issue.

For most tax filing processes, the whole calculation is rather simple. Even a personal with no accounting background can do the calculation by reading through the IRS instructions, should he have the time and energy. Most people however, would rather pay a fee and let the software do it so that they can save themselves from the trouble.

I think one thing the government can do to reduce the software power is to make the tax filing system more easy to follow.
